With a simple definition, these are the machines that perform the chip removal process from the workpiece by the spindle working in a horizontal position in CNC Machining centers. In terms of general operating principles; cnc horizontal machining centers, which have the ability to reach precise surface quality in high-volume jobs, are an indispensable production tool for both the mold-making sector and many different manufacturing areas, especially the automotive sector.

It has a larger body in volume compared to a standard cnc vertical machining center. The body structure is again cast. It has a load-bearing rotary work table, namely a rotary table. Standard new generation cnc horizontal machining centers are generally produced as double tables. Additional pallet systems are mostly optional.

Rotary pallets are grouped according to the aspect ratio, and this has brought along the habit of being called by the capacity of the machine. For example, a "500 horizontal machining center" indicates that the width and length dimensions of the machine table or pallet are around 500 mm. There are those with pallets in different sizes. It can start from 400x400 dimensions and go up to 1300x1300 dimensions. There is no standard dimension determined by machine manufacturers.

The rotation indexing precision of the table is of great importance. In surface applications requiring simultaneous processing, while the workpiece rotates due to the pallet, the spindle removes chips from the rotated surface at the same time. Surface quality, apart from the selected tool, speed, etc., is also directly proportional to the table indexing degree. For example, the surface precision difference between machining by rotating the table by 1 degree and machining by rotating it by 0.001 degrees is clearly evident.

In large-bodied workpieces and processes requiring high chip removal, machines with high tool holder taper and spindle torque such as BT 50, CAT 50, etc., should be selected. Quality surface, durability, and rigidity are taken as basis. In opposite cases where the spindle motor power is low, the situation we call spindle stalling occurs, and the cutting tool cannot enter much depth. If it enters, the tool wears out or breaks quickly, economic costs and time loss increase, and work efficiency decreases. It is essential to bring together appropriate parameters to obtain the most efficient work result.

HSK-63, HSK-100, etc., spindles suitable for the tool holder taper type are used in high-speed cnc horizontal machining centers. It is more preferred in terms of surface quality, especially in the defense industry, in processing parts that are not very hard, such as aluminum. There are those with spindle speeds (rpm) ranging from 4500 to 30000 rpm.

In machines with multiple pallets, saving time is aimed with sequential processing in mass production operations. For example, for a car engine body, while one is being processed inside the machine processing area, other engines to be processed are loaded onto other pallets, and the bodies are processed serially one after another.
